Hackers Stole Thousands of Users Personal Details from Government Job Site
31st Aug 2007
Hackers who hacked into the Monster website (read here) also stole personal information from about 146,000 people using a jobs website sponsored by the US government.
USAjobs.gov site has about two million users, and was part of the hacking operation that Monster.com disclosed last week, according to Peter Graves, a spokesman for the US Office of Personnel Management.
The information stolen was names, mailing addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Social security numbers, which are encrypted in the database, were not compromised, Graves said.
The government has temporarily restricted recruiters from access until Monster ensures its computer system is secure.
